Gustavus Conyngham (c. 1747 – 27 November 1819), “the most successful of all Continental Navy captains”, was an Irish-born American merchant sea captain, a privateer, and an officer in the Continental Navy. Between 1777 and 1778, he captured 24 ships in the eastern Atlantic while fighting the British during the American Revolutionary War.
